Crowns

A silver crown had the value of five shillings (5/-), measured approx 1 inches in diameter and weighed approx 1 oz.
'Young head' crowns were issued in 1844, 1845 and 1847.
A 'gothic' crown was briefly issued in 1847 and in 1853 - these are extremely rare and frequently forged.
'Jubilee Head' crowns were issued annually between 1887 and 1892.
'Old Head' (or 'Veiled Head') crowns were issued between 1893 and 1900.
These had her regnal year in the edge - e.g. LVI or LVII for 1893.

Double florins had a value of 4 shillings (4/-), were slightly smaller and lighter than a crown and were only issued from 1887 to 1889.

Halfcrowns

A silver halfcrown had the value of 2 shillings and 6 pence (2/6), measured approx 1 inches in diameter and weighed approx oz.
'Young head' halfcrowns were issued annually between 1839 and 1850 and again between 1874 and 1887.
'Jubilee head' halfcrowns were issued annually between 1887 and 1892 and 'old head' halfcxrowns between 1893 and 1901.
