The Adoptive Emperors - Coins of Trajan, 98 to 117 AD

Governor of Germany when Nerva adopted him as his heir, Trajan proved to be one of the most successful of all emperors, spending money on fine buildings and public works.  In military matters his greatest triumph was his conquest of Dacia which he celebrated by the building of Trajanís Column in Rome.  He then went on to invade Mesopotamia but had to return to deal with trouble or rebellions in his other provinces including Britain.  On his way back, he suffered a stroke and died.
